We are a thriving members’ owned organization, home to squash world number 1 Nick Matthew and doubles tennis professional Jonny Marray. Originally founded in 1886, the Hallamshire consisted of just two grass tennis courts alongside a club house. In the 128 years that has passed the club has evolved and expanded and now boasts many modern facilities including:
- 9 Squash courts, 5 of which are glass backed with recently added extensive modern seating and viewing areas. Lessons in both Racketball and Squash are available for all ages and abilities. Skills and techniques learnt can be practiced in our popular box leagues and/or ongoing team-based leagues that run throughout the calendar.
- 12 tennis courts; 4 indoor and 8 outdoor tennis courts provide the basis for a thriving tennis community. The Hallamshire Academy of Tennis provisions coaching for all ages and abilities and is a great way to enter into the sociable and highly active tennis scene.
- A fully equipped, friendly gym that is a member of the certified Fitness Industry Association. The friendly and enthusiastic fitness team are always on hand to answer any gym or fitness related queries and, if a member of the gymnasium, they can write a personalised programme tailored to your individual goals and motivations. We also offer an array of fitness classes throughout the week for added variety in your fitness routine.
- Bar/TV Lounge; Our comfortable and relaxed lounge bar offers both non-alcoholic and alcoholic refreshments and snacks pre- or post-sporting activity! Hot food is served 6-10pm Mon-Friday whilst sandwiches can be ordered at any other time. 2 large screen HD TVs equipped with Sky broadcast sporting events throughout the year. - Hallam Sports Rackets & Sports Shop; Run by Hedley Matthew, this caters for all your re-stringing, equipment, shoe and clothing needs.
