Black Pistol Fire is a Canadian Rock and Roll duo that split’s time between Toronto, Ontario and Austin, Texas. Their wild and energetic rock-and-roll sound has been described as a mix of classic southern rock and garage punk, garnering comparisons to early Kings of Leon, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The White Stripes. It's clear that the band's sound spans many different eras and sub-genres, relying on a classic rock and roll sound that has been updated for our modern times.
Black Pistol Fire features Kevin McKeown on Guitar/Lead Vocals and Eric Owen on Drums. The two have been friends since kindergarten and began playing music together when they discovered a shared passion for rock and roll music in high school. After grinding away for many years on the Toronto music scene, it was becoming clear to the boys that their hunger for musical fulfillment would have to be satisfied elsewhere. Having had such an affinity for the south and all the music that bear its origins, Austin had been on the radar for quite some time. Deciding to quit his job and take the plunge, Kevin informed his band mate and lifelong friend that he was southbound and headed for the Capitol City. Eric shared in a similar outlook and took to action with no hesitation. The band finally settled down in Austin, Texas in 2009 and Black Pistol Fire was born. Arriving in Austin, having nothing but clothes and instruments, Eric began booking shows immediately. Not knowing hardly anyone in a new city, the boys played as a Duo, which they had never done live. Rehearsing as a duo was something they had always done, but pulling it off live was a different beast all together. They soaked up all that the Austin music scene had to offer, and their music developed a more distinctive "southern" sound. The first two years, they relied on a steady diet of potatoes and rock n roll, while rehearsing, and creating new material in a garage they had rented. Slowly they began to find their voice among a city of overwhelming talent. While playing a local Austin hotspot, Producer Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Von Bondies, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) approached the band about recording their next record. That album was recorded in 2 separate sessions, mainly off the floor, on to 2” tape. The LP, simply titled “Black Pistol Fire” was released in February 2011 in select record stores in North America, at live shows, and worldwide through ITUNES. The LP garnered a positive critical response from publications such as the Austin Chronicle, Pop Music Matters, and the Houston Press. The LP received radio airplay on over 100 college radio stations in both Canada and the US, reaching as high as #59 on the CMJ charts. The album was also featured on Chorus Radio’s Explore Music and the Ongoing History of New Music. Both programs are hosted by Alan Cross and syndicated all over Canada. The band has also seen their music used in television shows such as 90210, Hawaii 5-0, Suits, Sons of Anarchy and The Protector as well as being featured in an adds for Pepsi Canada and Braun. They have toured throughout North America as well as completing a successful European tour in the fall of 2011. The band recorded their 2nd LP “Big Beat 59” in the fall of 2011, with producer Michael Rocha in Toronto. This album will be released in the spring of 2012 with radio and press campaigns already being planned. As a companion piece to the new album, BPF has also recorded the EP “Shut-up: A tribute Little Richard” which will also be released in the spring of 2012

“A spidery guitar break on opener "Cold Sun" and McKeown's end flourish on "Jezebel Stomp" loosen aural pheromones leading to a Red River rumble on "Your Not the Only One," though it's the roundhouse wallop of "Black Eyed Susan" backed by the cymbal splash and guitar sirens of "Silent Blue" that sets Black Pistol Fire rolling and tumbling toward the last third of the LP.
