Epicly psyched-out pop scorchers that I'd liken to 'Microcastle' era Deerhunter. AKA, excellently constructed melodic pop songs, with just enough weird to push them in to the sweet zone. New LP 'Mania Whatever' out now on Maternal Voice (home of Mark Riley's faves DUDS).

IRMA VEP

Edwin Stevens' (Sex Hands, Klaus Kinski, Desmadrados Soldados De Ventura, Yerba Mansa…) solo project which goes from scorched earth guitar wigouts, to darkly comedic, reverb-drenched balladry, to weirdo guitar pop with the greatest of ease. Much Irma Vep feels like what “classic” music should feel like if it weren’t so Classic. The staring down the road of despair of Neil Young – CHECK. The guitar MAGIC of Television – CHECK. With releases on both hosts' record labels Irma Vep obviously has impeccable taste in friends also. 'No Handshake Blues' out now on Faux Discx / Comfortable on a Tightrope'.
