Nadia Rose, the 23-year-old Croydon rapper who brings her own versatile flow to a thriving genre, describes her music as ‘bassy, hard-hitting, dancehall, hip-hop infused fun' and says she was heavily inspired by old school reggae and MCs like Lil Kim.

There are echoes of her influences: Missy Elliott’s verbal eccentricity, Eminem’s technical panache with a dollop of dancehall, and she shares the penchant for banter that marks out her British peers such as Lady Leshurr.

Two years ago, the 23-year-old was studying for a degree while working 12-hour shifts in a betting shop to make ends meet. She would scribble down lyrics in her spare time as her male contemporaries - Section Boyz, Bonkaz and her cousin Stormzy - were starting to break through. Realising the job was holding her back, she packed it in and started to make her name with her savage, witty lyrics and sense of fun.

With a string of sold-out live performances under her belt performing alongside acts such as Section Boyz, Anderson .Paak, major brand endorsements from Adidas, G-Star, Beats by Dre, DKNY and a co-sign from R&B Superstar Alicia Keys, Nadia is clearly raising the bar for female rappers in a scene typically dominated by men.
