Now in their fifth decade as a band, Pure Prairie League remains one of country-rock’s most vital and best-loved groups. Over the years, they have scored Top 40 hits and built a loyal following, even while undergoing numerous personnel changes and major label contracts.

Pure Prairie League was formed in Columbus, Ohio, in 1969 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Craig Fuller, singer/guitarist George Powell, bass player Jim Lanham, and drummer Tom McGrail, who gave the band its name, which was the name of a women’s temperance group in the 1939 Errol Flynn movie Dodge City. Pure Prairie League built up a following in Ohio, playing around Cincinnati for a year before earning a record contract with RCA Victor.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, PPL enjoyed radio success on both pop and country charts, and toured constantly throughout the Midwest and nationally. While changing times forced the band to break up in the mid-1980s, they re-united in 1998 with a newfound vitality.

Reunited to treat us to music that sounds as good today as it did when they first performed, PPL is touring and enjoying every minute of it. PPL has been playing true to its original form. The band’s longevity is a testament of the timelessness of the music, with a current lineup of John David Call, Mike Reilly, Scott Thompson, and Donnie Lee Clark.
