Festa: SUP Club – Tough Stuff?

With apologies for the late call, it is now looking like the worst of today's weather should be done by this evening and the skies might even clear, so we're going to go for it... We can't stress strongly enough that this week's SUP Club is not for everyone though – definitely no hire kit, and if you're not yet a regular in the front half of the pack, it might be worth giving this one a miss. Because, while it's panning out nicely and could well turn out lovely (if chilly!) there is a real risk that we may hit a stiff headwind at times on the way home – which is something we always try to avoid on a Wednesday evening. (Worst case our stronger / more experienced paddlers will all be absolutely fine, but tonight's definitely not the night to learn upwind technique if you're not yet certain of your abilities...) Of course, all that said it'll most likely turn out lovely! We're going to meet at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm launch at Mill House (by the Church Road bridge, just beyond CM3 4BG – see www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z9N9RqIZx2PM.kL-b5kgjhXP8&usp=sharing). Ideally 11'-plus boards only in case we need to graft home, and definitely wrap up warm. Again, we're just looking at three locks west towards the A12 to turn at Cuton Lock, c.7km, and back by dusk – in time for drinks and food at the Six Bells after...
